Car Alarms: Alarm stuck on, chrysler voyager, dash area

Question
QUESTION: Hi
I have a p reg Chrysler voyager. The remote entry fobs no longer work on it for disabling the alarm or unlocking the doors. how ever the standard keys still operate the central locking. The problem i have is that the dash keeps flashing alarm active and the immobilizer is stuck on and you need to use the key fobs to deactivate it. 1 problem my key fobs don't work. i think there is a line fuse gone for the remote key reader but i can not locate it even from looking in a manual. Is there a way of permanently deactivating the alarm and just using the normal keys to operate the car. or can you tell me the easiest way of getting to the receiver unit.
thanks
James

ANSWER: Not sure what aftermarket system you have
there, but it's not a factory alarm
from your description.
This is what I think is going
on....

The alarm seems to be in long tamper mode.
You will need to reset, and possibly
re program the remotes. That part you will need
your manual for, but the aftermarket alarm
seems to be doing it's job.
At least we know it's installed correctly
which is actually a good thing here.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.

QUESTION: Hi The alarm is standard with car as far as i know. it is a right hand drive voyager manual with clutch switch for ignition. I cant find the switch under the dash that you mentioned. After looking in the manuals it says that the remote reciever is behind the instrument pannel but its not the body control unit is where it should be and appears to be the original. but other than that im starting to think that this car is the only one of its kind and must be completly diferent from other voyagers as no instructions in any manual or diagrams seem to match the car?????
its a nightmare. If i could just get hold of a DBR iii this would be much easier. but they are like gold dust and cost a fortune and chrsler want £169.20 just to plug it in to 1 thats with out any work.
please help

ANSWER: Wish I had more to offer on this one.
I suspect you may have to pay the dollar
as it were to solve this. But last thing,
there may be a way to terminate the immobilizer
in the ignition by setting up a bypass.

What year is this?

QUESTION: It is an English P reg car which is 1997.
if you could bypass it that would be great.
any sugestions for this as the wiring diagrams really dont help in the manuals.

Answer
The trouble here for us is this Mini Van
has a door lock system tied into the disarming
of the factory alarm. That means you would need to
add a keyless entry option to the mix if the
act of :key in the drivers door, turn full left, then
full right to disarm and unlock" is not working.

The following ar the notes to install an aftermarket
alarm into this vehicle. It will show
wire colors/polarities & designations
for the common points we use to do this work.

1997-1998 Plymouth Voyager

ITEM   |  WIRE COLOR         |POL| WIRE LOCATION

12V|red          |+  |ignition harness
STARTER|yellow          |+  |ignition harness
IGNITION|blue          |+  |ignition harness
SECOND IGNITION|black/orange |+  |ignition harness
ACCESSORY|black/white *1     |+  |ignition harness

POWER LOCK|white/green       |*2 |left plug at bottom of fuse
POWER UNLOCK|same wire       |*2 |box under cover (1 of 3)

DISARM DEFEAT|violet/white *3
PARKING LIGHTS +|do NOT use
PARKING LIGHTS -|grn/wht or grn/red at light switch

DOOR TRIGGER|brown/lt. green  |-  |dome light on/off switch
DOME SUPERVISION|brown/white  |-  |dome light on/off switch
TRUNK/HATCH PIN|tied in with doors
HOOD PIN|pink/black          |-  |underhood light

FACTORY ALARM ARM|arms with lock
FACTORY ALRM DISARM|disarms with unlock

TACHOMETER|gray or gray/red   ignition coil
BRAKE WIRE|white/tan         |+  |brake switch
HORN TRIGGER|black or gry/org|-  |top right plug of fuse box
WIPERS|pink/purple          |-  |steering column

LF WINDOW UP/DN|lt. green - white   |A  |drivers door switch
RF WINDOW UP/DN|brown - purple      |A  |drivers kick panel
LR WINDOW UP/DN|dk. blue - red      |A  |drivers kick panel
RR WINDOW UP/DN|gray - dk. green    |A  |drivers kick panel

Notes:
*1 Not required for remote start.

*2 Use relays and set up for negative trigger.

Place a 4020 ohm resistor inline on the lock output,

and a 665 ohm resistor inline on the unlock output.

If you do not have a factory security system use
a 1500 ohm for lock and a 250 ohm for unlock.

*3 The door lock motor wires are located in the top
left plug at the relay/fuse box under the drivers
side of the dash.

DONE.

I hope you can use the information to resolve your
vehicle's issues there.

Let me know what you discover.
