Car Alarms: car alarm, standard transmission, car alarm

Question
is it true if you have your car in neutral and you hit something the alarm will not go off. that it has to be in gear to hit something to make the alarm sound?

Answer
The thing here is, it's looking for the IGNITION
to be on or off. If in gear, the car (unless a standard transmission)
requires the key to be in and turned on
to turn the steeing wheel, and in affect would not
allow the car alarm to arm, as the ignition wire
to the alarm is detecting the switch and
will not allow the system to arm when on.

When the ignition switch is off, then the system
will do what you are asking it to do.

So 2 answers here. If automatic and in gear,
no the alarm will not work.
If manual trans, yes, but if key is turned on,
no alarm will sound.

I hope this answers your question to your
satisfaction.
