Car Alarms: 1996 cavalier theft alarm problems, gm vehicle, chevy cavalier

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1996 chevy cavalier. about 6 months ago maybe, i bought this vehicle off my brother. Something went wrong where the key turn stopped working, so he rigged up a push button start, so you'd have to turn the key as if you were cranking it, then push the button to turn it over. A couple weeks after i got the car, it started having issues with the alarm. I tried just about every solution i could find on the internet, as well as swapping out the ignition cylinder and instrument cluster. With none of these solutions working, i took it to a mechanic. 400 dollars later, it got a new computer, all programmed and everything, and it worked fine. The mechanic told me that if I didn't want it to happen again, i had to make sure that I pressed the push start within 5 seconds of turning the key. He said that otherwise the car thinks someone is trying to steal it. well things worked fine and then today i got the same horrible issue again. I was about to leave school and i went to turn it on and the fuel cut out and it shut off, and i was left with a flashing alarm light. after multiple attempts at getting it started, i eventually did get it started and got it home. is there any way to just disable the alarm system? i really can't afford to put another computer in it right now. it happened completely out of nowhere with no explanation, and i'd been starting it within 5 seconds so i don't know how this happened. thank you for any helpful advice you have to offer!!

ANSWER: This vehicle has a the PASSLOCK I key based engine disabling system.

It appears you've reset the VATS.
The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key anylonger. You can either tow it to any
GM vehicle dealer to have the service department
re code it, or, there is a permanent solution.

Adding the PLJX Self learning Bypass module (59.95)
will bypass the PASSLOCK system in your vehicle
for good. See this at www.PASSLOCK1.com

QUESTION: I thank you VERY VERY much for your help.

I just want to know about the PLJX. Is this just something to assist in remote starters? the site doesn't offer much information on it. I know for most of them you have to find the proper resistance, which i can't do while it's on the fritz like this. I just want to make sure that this will work before i spend money on it, considering i am tight on money right now.

so to clear things up, i go to start it and cuts the fuel line. adding this device will permanently disable the theft system? and it will start without cutting off the fuel line as long as this is wired up to it?

and if it's not too much hassle, could you explain how this works?

again, you can't imagine how much this is helping me and how much i appreciate it. this is basically the highlight of my week already.

Answer
Ok, this is designed to momentarilly allow the
engine to remote start by sending a proper coded
pulse to open passlock.

The output from the alarm/remote starter
would then shut down, and preserve the integrity
of the passlock system. That is it's designed
purpose.

In your case, this input wire, instead of going to
a momentary ground pulse from an alarm/remote starter,
would go to a constant chassis ground, through
the bypass module, grounding out the PASSLOCK.
The PASSLOCK would then always be bypassed as long
as that wire is chassis grounded.

I can not speak about a damaged passlock system,
like if a thief destroyed it,
but this does work on Cavaliers in most instances.

Also, this is a self learning, resistor sensing
and adjusting module. Once the VATS wires have been tapped,
you would press the program button to learn,
and it does. The car should then allow start
with any hardware store key.

Hopefully, it will on yours as well.
