Car Alarms: 1993 K-Blazer horn goes off, auto reply, yellow button

Question
At 4am the alarm (Viper 800) and horn on my 1993 Chevrolet K-Blazer went off.  It was especially unusual as the horn is not part of the alarm system and it was as if someone was holding the horn switch down.  The alarm did not respond to the remote so I manually unlocked the car (the horn stopped at this point) and turned off the alarm via the ignition/valet combo.  I locked the doors and did not reset the alarm and returned to bed.  Within the hour the horn was going again.  It stopped when I opened the car door.  I removed the horn fuse and did not set the alarm to prevent additional occurances.  Any thoughts?

PS the viper was installed in 1993 when the car was new and neither have given me any problems 300K miles/14 years later.  The alarm rarely false alerts
