Car Alarms: de activate alarm while installing new batttery, alarm features, subaru forester

Question
our 1999 Subaru Forester with out keyless entry has an alarm . I tried to install a
new battery. as soon as the connection was made I almost went deaf from the
alarm. No way yo turn it off and the ignition key will not start......HELP  How do I
disable temporarily the alarm to install the battery?    thanks

Please try to locate the valet switch
to overide the alarm.

If you would read some of the previous
posts I made on this subject, you will
see the procedure to toggle into and out
of valet/override mode. It allows
you to set and reset the starter kill mechanism
as well as all other standard alarm features.

This should also apply to yours.
