Porsche Repair: porsche 944 transaxle, cotter pin, torque specifications

Question
porsche 944 1984 non turbo.  What is the torque specifications for the axle stub nut(driver rear).  I had one snap right off while driving and I want to be sure when I replace the axle stub that it is done by the right procedure.  Is there a certain procedure for this. Load bearing etc. Thank you.

Answer
John, you lost an axle nut on the road?  Am I on candid camera?

There's actually no special procedure to install this important! part, but you do need to put 340 ft-lbs of torque on it...and that's a lot.  After it's been torqued, you would install the cotter pin which prevents what happened to you.  I'm sure glad you've lived to tell about it.

Good luck and have fun with your baby when you get back on the raod.
