Car Alarms: VW Beetle 2000 Key, remotes, factory systems

Question
I recently bought a used 2000 VW Beetle and my alarm key was not responding.
I was told that the key contained a battery that controls the alarm. With this in
mind, I opened the key in an effort to replace the battery. After closing the
battery, the car has no power. It will not turn over, it is basically dead. What do
you think is the problem with my car?

Answer
The resetting of the battery may be sending a signal to
disable the starter. And since your key has a chip
in it, and you powered it down. the reader in the
ignition for that chip does not recognise it any longer.

Call VW service for OEM (FACTORY)
issues like this, as I don't offer OEM advice on remotes here.

Not that I know what the issue is and refuse help, I
simply do not get into these factory systems,
and can not speak to your issue competantly.

Sorry, hope it works out.
