Car Alarms: possible car alarm problem, 2000 ford windstar, ford windstar

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 Ford Windstar. The problem I have had sporadically lately is the interior lights flash dimly like there is a short as well the theft light on the control panel. This is with the car off of course. Usually it goes away when the car is started but once it would not let me start the car. The instrument gauges were going crazy like the speedometer moving up and down with out the car moving. I fixed this by disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting and it started right up. When it was acting up it gave me the impression of a car alarm going off with all the lights flashing so I was wondering could a old alarm system cause these type of symptoms and how do you take it out? The alarm appears to work normally 99% of the time. Thank you for your help.

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: I'm not sure if the headlights or parking lights were flashing because I was inside the vehicle in the daytime. It is the dome light, side door light, no horn or siren but the word "theft" flashes in the dash lights. No other lights (dash lights) light up. It gave me the impression that the alrm was trying to go off but it made no sounds or horn. I bought it used so I don't know if it is factory or not. It gave the appearance of a short circuit the way the interior lights flashed, all gauges including the speedometer were going up and down. It may not be the alarm at all but it seemed to possibly be a source. I have no idea where it is located or how to disconnect it. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Ok, normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt. blue/black |-|in the 26 pin plug at
FEM module.
The FEM module is located under the drivers
side of the dash on the firewall.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

Let me know if this did the trick in yours.

Have a good evening.
