Car Alarms: 93 camaro car alarm, gm vehicle, switch assembly

Question
QUESTION: My son has a 93 camaro and the factory insatlled alarm is acting up & at times it will not start. How do you disconect it.This has caused him to be late for work.Thank you for your help,Jim

ANSWER: Sorry, but more input is required to give you
a good answer for this issue.

I need the make model of the alarm system
if you know it please.

Also, is it a siren and flashing parking lights,
and an LED flashing in the dash when the alarm
"goes off"?

or,

Is it the headlights flashing, a worded "security"
or "anti-theft" blinking light in the dash cluster,
and the car's own horn honking?

This info helps me determine what alarm system
(after market or OEM-factory) that you are dealing
with.

Let me know and I will see if I can help you.

QUESTION: Do not know the model it is OEM. anti-theft blinking in dash when car won"t start. Thanks again

Answer
Ok, not uncommon, but it is problematic.

It appears you've reset the VATS.
The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key when that happens. You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position & wait at
least 10 mins like that when it happens. But
after awhile, it will stop working at all.
Your ignition switch assembly may be to blame.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart all the time. But if this does not work,
then go to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department evaluate the issue,
re code it.

Good luck I hope method 1 does the trick!
