Car Alarms: Alarm on 1997 lexus GS300, lexus gs300, 1997 lexus es300

Question
QUESTION: Alarm on 1997 Lexus ES300 went off and shut down the car how do we take
it off?

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: The alarm is factory installed and I brought the car used. the remote stopped
working a while ago and I started using the key to enter the car. I had a
problem with the drive side key entry the alarm would go off and shut the car
down, Someone told me to try the passenger key entry and I did and the car
started. I have been entering the car that way every since. Then yesterday
when I tried to enter on the passenger side the alarm went off with the
honking horn, lights flashing and LED on the dash. I put the key into the
ignition and the alarm stopped but the car would not start. The stereo came
on but the engine just went click.

Answer
This car's "factory" alarm depends on the actual
door locking and unlocking to control the alarm arm
and disarm. Without the remote, you would be
having the problems you are now experiencing.

Best way to regain control is to have the
remote (s) repaired. Once done, when you
unlock remotely, you will disarm the
alarm. There are no other "quick fixes" here
on this car. Sorry about that.

Good luck with it.
