Car Alarms: 94 explorer alarm trouble, dash area, power drain

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1994 explorer xlt and when I set the alarm using my key fob, about 20 or 30 seconds later the alarm goes off. If i manually lock my doors then it doesn't set the alarm but that seems to defeat the purpose of having an alarm??  Any suggestions? Thanks.

ANSWER: Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
Is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
"going off"?

If it's the second option, then the alarm is seeing
an open circuit. It detects this
power drain on the battery and then sets the appropriate
trigger. I would check for any constant on source
like a dome light etc...

Once you locate and turn off the open current
source, The remotes and the alarm can
do the job right.

If it's the factory alarm, I suspect a bad
wire in the drivers door. You would need
to locate the alarm disarm wire
(dk. green/purple |-| in the drivers kick panel)
splice into it, and ground to the body.

That disarms it for good.

Let me know which applied to your issue.

QUESTION: It is definetely a factory alarm. So I guess grounding (dissarming) it is the best option then? Should I just go and buy an aftermarket alarm if I want an alarm on the truck? Will my key fob still work the door locks?
ANSWER: Yes I would definatey buy a good after market
alarm with starter kill and a good keyless entry.
You would take the current remote and park
it in a drawer somewhere. It would conflict.
The new after market system will take over
all the functions that one did and more.

QUESTION: that would be awesome if you could put together a package for me. I don't need anything to hi tech, just something that will lock/unlock my doors and make it so someone can't steal the truck. Thanks for all your help!!

Answer
Cool. For this one, if basic is the goal,
I'd do the Precision P10 alarm for 45. bucks,
and a starter kill relay and socket for 7.50.

Done.

See it at www.caralarmz.com

If you like it, send an email
to installsupport@aol.com
and I will send a paylink for
all with 2-3 day shipping included.

It's a good little system for under 50.
Easy to install too.
