Car Alarms: 94 prelude alarm not working after battery disconnect, prelude vtec, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: Hi have a 94 prelude vtec and after the battery leads were removed and cleaned and re-installed the car alarm for the car has not worked.  Every other electric componet works fine, however the alarm does not.  Also, in the past, as soon as I started my car my door locks would engage.  However, now I have to manually engage the door locks to lock the car, although if I engage the door lock on the drivers side, the passenger side is also automatically engaged.

ANSWER: Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing
when the alarm was triggered?
Or,
Is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
on this alarm?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.

QUESTION: Headlights flashing, car horn honking and an LED near the gear shift.
ANSWER: Ok, check to see that the security module is
plugged in. The factory security plug located to
the left of the steering column.
The plug is gray in color.

If this is intact, the next option is
to go to the local Honda shop and put
it on a diagnostic reader to find the fault.

Since this is factory, it would need the diagnostic
at Honda to locate and correct the fault if possible.

QUESTION: Actually the alarm is not factory installed and is an after market which I had installed over 8 years ago.

Answer
Aha!
 Alrighty then,
If it's an aftermarket alarm, there would
be a reset or valet switch under the dash area,
that would help you out. But you'd need to
tell me if there's an LED flashing in the dash
when that happens, and if a siren is sounding,
and the parking lights flashing at the same time
you can't start it, then it is indeed an
after market alarm. The next time this happens,
try the following:

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
