Car Alarms: 1996 Grand CherokeeLaredo Alarm Issues, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I just bought a 1996 grand cherokee, the factory alarm keeps going off for no reason. Since the factory alarm is basically useless, I was wondering if there is a DIY way to disable it. Also, if you have any pictures or diagrams, they would be helpful. Thank You

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
Is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
"going off"?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.

QUESTION: It is a factory installed alarm. There is no impact alarm and the headlights flash and the horn goes off whenever the alarm is tripped.
ANSWER: Ok normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
purple/yellow |-| in the door harness
at the drivers kick panel.
It can also be found at the
Black plug in the BCM.

The BCM located between the steering column
and the drivers kick panel. The plug is located in
the drivers side front corner of BCM just behind
the knee bolster. All wires in the plug exit
straight down.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.

QUESTION: i disarmed the alarm according to your instructions. But this has raised a new problem. Now, when the alarm is grounded, the interior lights will not go off. So, what I have been doing is, when I get out of the car, i unground the alarm wire(in order to arm the alarm/turn off the interior lights), and when i get in, the alarm goes off and i have to ground the wire quickly. This is slightly annoying, but i guess it could be worse. Do you have any advice? Is there any way to have the interior lights turn off without the alarm being armed?

Answer
Well normally, the alarm is momentarilly grounded to disarm
and allows the lights to function because
it was a pulse, not a peramanent ground.
(ie: key in drivers door, turn left to ground
wire, disarming system, turn right to disarm.

You will need a device to emulate this action.
A keyless entry fore instance can be added and
can be tied in here to send a ground pulse to the
purple/yellow, at the same time you are going
to unlock the doors.

Or you can go simpler, and set up a switch to
press prior to entering that would ground it when and
only when pressed. Any radio shack can handle that.
(12 volt switch please!)
