Car Alarms: Car alarm without remote, valet mode, fcc id

Question
I bought a used car that has an alarm but it does not have a remote for the alarm.  The previous owner apparently lost the remote to the alarm.  So now my alarm goes off after a small amount of time once I open the door and don't start the car right up.  This is pretty annoying, especially when I take my car into the shop to get worked on as the alarm constantly goes off and they don't know how to turn it off.  I would like to possibly get a remote for the car rather than get rid of the alarm because I have a Honda and those are pretty popular with the thieves.  Would any alarm remote work with my alarm or would I need to figure out what kind of alarm I have and get a compatible remote?  How would I go about doing this?  I am a student so the cheaper the better! Thanks so much!

Answer
That all sounds great and logical, but
no, there is no "universal" remote that could
control it. Nope, only in a perfect world.

That would not be too secure then
would it?

You will need to identify what system you have
in there to get a new remote for it.
Places like keynfob.com etc... do that sort of thing,
but they need the FCC ID # on the brain box, or on
the remote to accomplish that for you.

If that's a possibility to fish out the brain,
and track down new remotes and programming
information, then excellent, go fo it.

If not, then an easy to install, fresh alarm
system is in your future. I have several that
will fit the bill here, but it's up to you
how to go. From 46.00 and up.

For now, try putting the system into overide/valet
mode (see past posts) and you can at least
not have to deal with the alarm sounding until
you can get the replacement (s).

Good luck.
