Car Alarms: security system on 1993 pontiac bonneville sse, pontiac bonneville, valet mode

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville SSE, I drove it to work the other day and it was fine, came out from work and it wouldn't start, wouldn't turn over or anything.  Was told to try and unhook battery cable to reset it, that didn't work.  Anyway had it towed to shop, they couldn't get it started and they told me to get another key made, maybe the chip in my key was bad, so I went to the Pontiac deealer and had a new key made, that didn't work, they say there's no way to disable it or bypass it is this true?

ANSWER: Ok, according to my notes, the 1993
Pontiac Bonneville does have a PASSLOCK II
vehicle anti theft system in the ignition.
But the reaction would be it would try to crank,
then stop.

If you get NOTHING when the key is turned,
it's likey to be either the factory security,
(different from passlock) needs to be
disarmed/disabled, or it is the Passlock,
and there are ways around it.

So, normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt. green |-| in the drivers door harness.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

Now, in the event we are dealing with an aftermarket
piece here, try the following:

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid. Then key off.

This is overide/service or "valet" mode.
The car would now be able to start.

Let me know which solves the issue.

Have a good day.

GM will not tell you what's "possible", only what's
"probable", and what THEY are capable of taking care
of. Not always the best advice when it comes to
a customer doing it themselves.

Grain of salt here. :>(

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thanks so much, we did that (disabled the wire in the door harness) now it cranks but then as soon as it does the fuel pump shuts off and it won't sent fuel - any other suggestions?

Answer
Nope, now it's a Passlcok issue.
You can try putting the key in the ignition,
turning to the on position and leaving it there for 10 to 12 mins.
Passlock has been know to reset after this.
If not, then GM would need to reprogram the passlock
and key.

Best I can do for you on this one.
Blame it on GM's system,
not the messenger, k?

Hope it applies to yours.
