Car Alarms: Disabling factory security system 98 Subaru Outback, subaru outback, outback wagon

Question
I purchased a used 98 Subaru Outback wagon a couple of years ago, which came with the factory installed security system + keyless entry.  I do not want the security system, especially as it periodically sets itself off when I manually use the 'lock/unlock all doors' switch on the driver door.  I would like to permanently disable the alarm system, ideally retaining the keyless (remote) entry function.  If that is not possible, I would settle for disabling the alarm.

I have the installation manual for the system, but it does not have any de-installation information.

Answer
Sure, let's put it into valet/service mode.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

The only thing that should be working now
would be the keyless entry.

Leave it this way, and your good to go.

Have a good night.
