Car Alarms: Jeep Cherokee alarm reset?, jeep cherokee, starter wire

My 'P'Reg Cherokee (1996?) alarm is malfunctioning. I treid to install a new car radio,but evidently shorted something out.. :-(  Unexpectedly, when I gave up and tried to lock the Jeep, the alrm chirped, as usual, then began to beep in preparation to sound the  main alarm. Now I cannot use the remote to lock the car. How to reset the alarm? I have waded through many possible answers; cannot find a valet switch to press.

Trouble then. You will need to locate the after market
system under the dash, see if there is a valet
switch attached. If not you will need to either add
one, or remove the alarm and repair the starter
wire.

But I'd look around a bit more since this is
the more involved option.
