Car Alarms: 2000 Mustang alarm, ford mustang coupe, ford mustang

Question
I ran into an interesting problem today. I went to unlock the door of my 2000 Ford Mustang Coupe with the spare key and the alarm went off (siren, flashing lights). I ran back into my house and grabbed the keyless entry remote. The panic button only added the horn, so I quickly shut that off and hit the unlock button on the remote. The alarm shut off, and the main key allowed me to start the engine.

I don't think it's a problem with the spare key, only because lately I've been noticing that after I lock my car and it beeps, it beeps again a few seconds later. That has only started up within the past few days. Also, I haven't had issues with the spare key before -- I've unlocked and started my car with it before. I'm going out in a few minutes to see if it's a problem with manually unlocking the car by trying it again with the main key.

As far as I know, the alarm is the same as it was out of the factory, but I bought the car used, so I'm not 100% sure.

Please let me know if you have any ideas on what it might be and how I can fix it! Thanks.

Answer
It seems to be a conflict using both the
aftermarket alarm and the factory system.
Use the remote only, and not the key to unlock doors.

The car's system is being confused by not using what it
recognizes as a "friendly" signal, and triggers.

Try only using the remote for ALL entries and
only use the ignition key to start the car.

I'd go into the local ford dealer then
and have all keys matched, and re programmed
so that you end up with the right setup,
and then you'll have a fresh start and reset.

Good luck.
