Car Alarms: 99 passat keyless remote, vw enthusiasts, passat

My keyless remote was working fine when i went to work, when i came back out it did work, the car would start because the alarm had been tripped by me openning it with the key.  I tried replacing the batteries.  I believe i put the batteries in right.  Any suggestions?

Your factory alarm should arm and disarm with the locking and unlocking of the vehicle.  If it is not then there is either a problem with the brain of the system itself or a switch in the vehicle might have gone bad.  I am not really a specialist on anything but aftermarket products so I am going to refer you to vwvortex.com where there is a forum full of VW enthusiasts that may be able to shed some light on a solution for you.
