Car Alarms: car alarm 99 civic lx, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: i cant figure out how to turn on my alarm anymore. my key chain remote has been broke for sometime and pushing the little button under my dash doesn't seem to do anything. can you help me please?    thanks Mary
ANSWER: Not sure what aftermarket system you have
there, but, ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.

ANSWER: Then I suggest you get it inspected to determine
why. I am at a disadvantage as I can not see it.
Make sure you hold in the button long enough,
But if all else fails, take the car to your
local stereo / alarm shop for reset, repair or
removal.

QUESTION: by chance is there a wire i can check? do you happen to know where the alarm is located or any other trouble shooting ideas?         thank you
         mary
ANSWER: No maam. No simple fix here.
Your alarm brain box is up under the dashboard area,
probably to the left of the steering column.
The alarm will be trouble until you can either
reset or, remove it.

I would strongly suggest you do that if you
don't want to deal with it anylonger.

QUESTION: can i go under the dashboard  to reset it myself? if so how would i do it?
thanks so much for you patience,

Answer
You could with the right tools, but I'd
get someone in there like the local stereo/car alarm shop
guy to make the changes needed as this is not a "quick"
thing. You not only would need to unplug the alarm
harnesses, you will then need to repair the
affected wiring. If you are up to it, go to
www.HONDASECURITY.com and see the link to the
HONDA CIVIC archives for the wiring.

Never let it be said I would not encourage my
women visitors to "do it yourself".
I will just assume you to be a capable
novice, and hope you do well with it.

Luck.
