Car Alarms: Where is the alarm system located?, fcc id, honda civic ex

I own a 97 Honda Civic EX and the alarm system and the key less unlock/lock system does not work.  I bought a new battery for the remote, and it has only worked once.  The red light on the top of the remote will turn on when you touch a button, but the car will not unlock or lock.  Is it a problem of the remote or a problem with the system?  Where is the system located in the car?  I would like to take a look at the wiring and make sure everything is okay.

It's an after market remote system.
Try to id the system at www.remotesunlimited.com
by using the FCC. id on the back. Then you can
determine if it lost programming, and where to get
the info you need to re do it.

Most aftermarket alarm brains are placed
under the dash, to the left or right of the
steering column.
