Car Alarms: Car Alarm randomly going off, pontiac grand prix, fcc id

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix and unfortunately the keyless entry/alarm remote ended up in the washing machine.  Well now it seems the alarm started going off randomly.  It took me a second to put it together but after I took the battery out of the remote it stoped, (I hope, I just had this happen tonight at midnight.)  I got the alarm to stop and press the lock button on the driver door twice to lock the door but the alarm light on the dash isn't on when I close the door but when I unlock and open the door it flashes.  Could you be able to tell me if the alarm will still work correctly or if something could be wrong with it now.  I now need to go to the dealer to get a new remote but in the meantime any answer would help.

Hard to say. I have no idea what alarm system
you are using. I'd call the dealer to see what they
suggest here if it's the OEM alarm.
If afternarket, look on the back of the remote, and
try to get a new remote using the FCC ID on it.

Oh, please refrain from "washing" the remotes.
