Car Alarms: Astra alarm turn off without remote, opel astra, car key

Hi. I lost my remote for my alarm. Now when I get into my car the alarm goes off. I know there is a combination of valet switch and the car key (almost ignition) but the standard one didn't work for me. I tried this: put key in ignition, turn on (just the ignition - until the dashboard comes alive) press valet switch, turn ignition off. I have a 2003 Opel Astra please help me out here.

That's how it's done.
  If you are having trouble with it, I suggest
you take it to the local shop to have it serviced.

when doing the valet overide procedure,
make sure you press and hold the button
(valet) for up to 7 seconds, or
until the siren chirps once.

Your system may differ. Contact the dealer you got it
from to be certain.
