Car Alarms: 94 buick factory installed alarm, buick park avenue, alarmtek

Question
I have a 94 Buick Park Avenue, when I lock the doors with the power door locks to set the alarm ,it does not set, I can try to open the doors and the alarm does not go off.
When I do the test by locking the doors with the power door locks and then unlock the doors and try to open the door the alarm will go off. any ideas as to what the problem is?

Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.
