This does not sound like it is a problem with the remote start.  The remote start, if installed properly, will never impede on the ability of the vehicle to start with a key.  I would look into the "touched some cables by accident" as being the more likely culprit to your no start issue.  If the starter was not engaging then I could tend to lean towards an alarm problem, however you say that the starter is engaging.  What is the make and model of the vehicle?  Did you happen to trip the fuel cut off, most newer Fords have a device that kills the fuel supply when the vehicle is in an accident.

Answer
Unless the installer did an ignition kill circuit I would not think the alarm has anything to do with your no start issue.  An ignition kill circuit is rare and most install shops will not do one, instead they will do starter kill circuits.  With a starter kill circuit only the wire that energizes the starter from the ignition switch is cut.  If your car's starter is cranking I would have to believe that the problem with your vehicle is coincidental with the fact you just programmed a new remote.  Unless you pulled a wire from it's socket I can see no reason for the alarm to be causing the problems you are having if it is disarmed.
