Car Alarms: car alarm 2000 Toyota Tundra, push button switch, toyota tundra

Question
I recently bought a 2000 Toyota Tundra. I was not given the remote for the alarm. The alarm set itself somehow and is going off. I can not not make it turn off and the truck won't start. I have tried numerous things that the car lot said to do and it is not working. What do I do?

Answer
Without knowing the exact model of the alarm I can not be sure of a definitive answer.  However most alarms have some type of valet override switch.  Take a look around the kick panel on the driver's side.  It would be a small toggle or push button switch that is activated by turning your ignition key to the run position and flipping/pushing the switch.  Some systems require pushing the switch more than once.  If you can not find the switch, disconnect your vehicle battery (to stop the alarm from sounding while working on it).  Take down the dash panel under the steering column and follow back the harness from the ignition switch.  There will be wires that were tapped into this harness that lead to the brain of the system.  Pulling the fuses from the brain should disable the system.  Once you find the brain of the alarm, post back the make and model number and I will see what I can do about finding the manuals for it as well as where to pick up a replacement remote.
