Car Alarms: keyless entry.... Sidewinder, remote keyless entry, reset 3

Question
Hi..I just bought a used car and it has a sidewinder remote keyless entry installed. The battery was dead in the transmitter so I replaced it. I now have a green button that lights up when a button is pushed on the transmitter. When I try to point and use it at the suv there is no response from the suv. Any ideas? I would so appreciate your advice. Thanks for your time!

Answer
If you are getting no response from the vehicle it could mean a couple of things.

1.  The transmitter is bad and needs to be replaced.
2.  The brain of the system in the vehicle is locked up and needs to be reset
3.  The fuses supplying power to the brain are bad
4.  The brain of the system is bad (highly unlikely with that brand)

To start troubleshooting, I would take a look under the dash of the vehicle and try to locate the brain of the system.  Once you have found it, verify you have power going to all wires that require power for it to operate properly.  Pulling the fuses that supply the unit then plugging them back in should reset the system.  If you find the brain and post the model number of the unit I will see what I can do about locating the installation and user's manuals for you.  If you do find the brain and would like to see if I can find the manuals for you, please post an email address that I can send them to.
