Car Alarms: Transponder for Remote Start, ford windstar, 2002 ford windstar

Question
Thank you for the info. Could you give me a quick explanation of how this works? Once you remote start the vehicle, do you need a key? What stops someone from punching out a window while it's running, and stealing the car?

-----Question-----
I have a 2002 Ford Windstar and I want to get a remote start/keyless entry. I'm looking at the Python 1400, but since I have a antitheft chip in my key, I'm told I need the transponder installed that has my 2nd key in it. I don't really want to buy another chipped key from Ford, if I don't have to. Are there any transponders that don't have to have the key installed permanently? Also, with the Python installed, do I need to have a key since my other key is in the transponder under the dash? I'm confused on how this works.

You do not have to buy a third key.  As long as you have both of the original keys, you can pick up a bypass module that programs like a third key for remote start.  I recommend the PKUF2 or PKF3 from Bypasskit.com.  You can find them labeled under several different brands, Omega, Code Alarm, Audiovox, to name a few but they are all the same unit.  The PKUF2 has a ring that wraps around the key cylinder and the PKF3 connects directly to the data wires that talk to the computer in the car.

Answer
The bypass only handles sending the correct information to the brain during remote start.  The key cylinder is still in the off position while running on the RS.  When you get into the vehicle you must put a key in the cylinder and turn it to the run position.  The RS shuts off once the brake pedal is pushed, if the key is in the cylinder, in the run position, the vehicle will remain running.  If there is no key in the run position when the brake is depressed the vehicle shuts off.  You can not put the vehicle into gear without first pressing the brake pedal.
