-----Question-----
My truck has a Karr 4040 alarm installed on it.  It was a dealer installed option.  I've had it for about a year and a half and it has always operated the same, when I pushed the lock button on the factory keyless entry thing the horn would beep twice, the hazard lights would flash and the led under the dash would start flashing.  When I would push the unlock button the horn would beep twice the lights would flash and the led would stop flashing.  A couple of weeks ago my alarm went off for no reason, maybe I was holding down the panic button or something without realizing it.  Anyway, I went outside to look around and silence the alarm. I just kept pushing random buttons on the keyless entry thing trying to get it to shut up. It did and when I went top re-arm it it only beeped once, which is typical after it is already armed it would only beep once. Later that night I went back out to my truck and pushed the unlock button and the lights flashed and the doors unlocked but the horn didn't beep twice like it used to.  So I pushed the lock button and the doors locked and alarm armed but only one beep from the horn. The next day I got up and drove to work and parked it. Got off work tried to start the truck and nothing.  I got a jumpstart from a coworker and went on my way.  Since then the battery hasn't died again but the alarm still doesn't function the way it used to.  Do you have any ideas on what would cause this problem? Is there anything I can do to get it to return to its correct operation?  Its almost like theres some kind short or something wrong with the little button that lets the truck know that the door is open or closed because when the alarm was working properly if one of the doors wasn't shut all the way it would do the same thing, but all the doors are closed and the light that comes on when the doors are open is working .  I have no idea but hope you do. I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealer because I don't want to take time off work to deal with them.  If you got this far, thanks for reading all this and I hope you can figure it out.

The aftermarket alarm seems to be doing it's job.
At least we know it's installed correctly
which is actually a good thing here.
But it does seem to need to be reset.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

Let me know if this works for you.

Answer
No the best thing now would be to locate
the manual for this alarm and to go through
the overide setup.

The method I discussed prior to this letter,
works for 95% of the alarms out there.

If yours does not, the manual will show
you how. The dealer should either have it,
or knows where you can get it.

Best way realy so you do not have to
guess at it.

Let me know how it goes.
