Car Alarms: removal, cadillac eldorado, orange jacket

Question
can the passlock or VATS system be removed from a 1989 cadillac eldorado.  if so how and where is it located on the vehicle otherwise the towtruck and the junkyard are its only future.  its a used car, its falling apart and I really am sick of getting screwed by mechanics.  is it junk or can i remove the system

Answer
You can just permanently bypass it with a simple resistor from radio shack, total cost will be less than $5.  Read across the pellet in the key with your meter on ohms, go to radio shack and pick up a resistor of the same value.  Take off the dash panel and find the wires running with the ignition wires, they are a very small gauge, and normally in an orange jacket.  Once you have verified you are on the correct wires, cut them and insert your resistor across those wires leaving the wires headed to the switch disconnected.  This will show the computer the correct resistance code every time you try to start the car, bypassing the VATS permanently.
