my 99 gmc ck truck it will not start with the key,had problems with remote start (astro start) the unit was not letting me start the truck with the key, so i tried to fix that but it locked up. the remote will not start the truck now i got power with the key but no cranking is it the remote start or the truck.the truck remote will crank the engine but it will not start please help.

Answer
The 99 GM trucks used PasslockII for anti theft.  This system uses resistance from the ignition cylinder to verify that the vehicle is being started with a key and not being hot-wired/forced forward.

Your problem sounds like you may have put the system into long tamper mode.  Once in long tamper mode your truck needs to re-learn the proper resistance.  To do this, just turn your ignition to the run position and leave it alone for 10 minutes.  This will teach the ECM the proper resistance.

To the remote start problem, I would have to think your bypass module is either out of adjustment or one of the connections has gone bad.  Do you know if the installer put in a learning module, or a static adjustment bypass.  If it is an adjustable bypass and not a self learning it may need to be adjusted.
