Car Alarms: My Alarm Randomly Goes Off, Please Help Me..., viper alarm system, durango 4x4

Question
Hey,

First thanks for taking the time for looking at this. About a month or two ago I started my car(1999 Dodge Durango 4x4) and my ABS and Brake light stayed on. I wasn’t sure why but I kept driving with them on. Everything seemed fine. The next time I got in it and started it they were not on anymore. Within a week they came on again and then the next time I started it they were off again. This happened off and on. Once in a while they would stay on after the second start but then on the third they would be off again. That I could handle since I didnt notice any problems but....

Two years ago I had a $500 Viper alarm system(791XV) installed by a pro. I had to replace an evaporator core and had to take the WHOLE dash out and had to cut some wires that were in the way and then put connectors on them when I reinstalled the dash. Now since the brake problem (not sure if thats related, just letting you know, with the sensitivity all the way down, my alarm goes off randomly. It usually does it at night but it has happened in the morning and such. I could run out and look and no one was there. The LCD remote shows a door opened meaning that zone was activated. It has happened 10+ times in the last month. I dont believe the problems are related but I don’t know what’s going on with my brakes so I threw it out there in case. I don’t know if its electrical, maybe the alarm, or even just a sensor, or door switch. This alarm is on of the kinds that detect when interior lamps go on and all that so my guess is it sees a power spike(or loss) and goes off. The alarm has a warn away but it skips it and goes straight to the alarm just like I was opening the door. I really dont know where to begin. I also have an in dash TV if that makes any difference. I was going to uplug the wire that detects the door and see if it goes off. Also that wire may have been cut and it may have a connector on it so if it was loose there would that be enough to make the alarm go off. My dash lights(only on when headlights are on) were flickering a long time ago and I smacked the dash and they came on and they never flickered again, not sure if that matters either. I am trying to lay everything on the line to try to help you. Please let me know what you think. As you can imagine this is very frustrating. Thanks in Advance,

Chad

Answer
So many things in your truck could cause a sensor
to read a malfunction, but the first thing to try
is all connection points. Especially the door trigger.
Might be a loose connection, bad pin switch etc...

I would also test the system's validity by unplugging
the external sensors, testing the alarm a few days
and if they seemed to be the cause, repair or replace.

But yes, I would definately check the trigger points
first.

Do that and let me know the progress.
