Car Alarms: Alarm failure, backup batteries, disconect

Question
I have a 2003 ford focus which i bought from a friend. He had upgraded the alarm so that it would detect the car being lifted. Because of this i have had piece of mind.
However, my car was broken into and the alarm very briefly sounded until the thieves removed my side indicator which stopped the alarm and shorted out the central locking. Surely this cannot be normal and could the alarm have been fitted wrongly? How can i stop this happening again?

Answer
The trouble Peter is there was not reliable back up
battery designed to kick in when this kind of
thing occurs. It Assures the management of the
alarm system, and allows for protection in any disconect
(short included) of the vehicle's battery.

Unfortunately, most alarms do not have a back up
battery included in the package installed.
You can certainly buy them and add it to enhance the
system, but alas, day late and a dollar short
in your case. However, spilt milk and all that right?

Solution? Retro fit the alarm with a backup, rechargeable
battery, and put it inline, close to where the installer
placed the brain of the fitted alarm system.

That solves it.

Sorry, but better to have the insurance company pay
this one off, & then fix the trouble from happening in the future.

Good luck.
