Car Alarms: car alarm wont shut off, inline fuse, dash area

Question
I have a 2004 Mazda RX8. It sat a year in our garage while I was in Iraq. Car battery went dead,  but my wife tried to jump it while I was gone, but she gave up when the car alarm (factory "panic" alarm) kept going off. (horn and 4 way flashers) I replaced the car's battery and it did fine for about 2 weeks. Today the panic alarm went off while just sitting in the car with the engine off and key out of the ignition. I reset it with the FOB, but the alarm kept going off when you tried to start it, or opened a door. I've read about resetting a "valet switch" under the dash, but am unsure where that is or if that would even fix my issues. any ideas?

Answer
Hey Timothy,
First off, thanks for standing up &
representing our country. Most deeply appreciated.

On this one, look under the dash, possibly also go to
www.remotesunlimited.com to identify just exactly
what alarm is in this car so I can better advise,
but it sounds as if the ignition wire blew an
inline fuse when she jumped it, and the
aftermarket alarm does not recognize if the
ignition is on or off. Hense the driving down
the road with the alarm sounding and parking lights flashing.

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine if installed.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

If no joy, let me know and we'll see what
else we can do. But for sure, you need to
get in there and do a wire check test to see
which fuse is burnt.

That sounds like the trouble.

Again, thanks for being there for me
and mine.
