Car Alarms: Alarms, center consoles, toyota camry

Question
Hows it going. I was wondering how to diactivate a stocked car alarm on a '95 Toyota Camry. I know a "switch" is located under some panel to turn it off, but where?

Answer
I believe that if you have an alarm in your vehicle, it is not stock, but either dealer installed or aftermarket installed.  The Valet switch, if properly installed should not be easy to find.  I have mounted them in glove boxes, center consoles, under seats, in trunks, etc.  In a few vehicles I have not installed them, and used a factory switch such as a hazard or blinker switch in place of a valet switch.

Since the vehicle is your own, I would recommend pulling the dash panel under your steering column down and finding the brain of your alarm.  Trace the wires coming from the alarm to find the valet switch.  Once you find the valet switch turn the ignition on, and flip the switch to it's opposite position and it should disable the alarm for you.  While you are under the dash, I would take a look to see what the make and model of your alarm is and try to find a manual for it for future reference.
