Car Alarms: Nissan Altima 01 Car alarm going off randomly, nissan altima, nissan factory

Question
Thank you very much for the response, i think that may be my only option.

I do have one last question though, when i inquired at the dealership about disconnecting the factory alarm and installing an aftermarket one, they said that wouldn't solve the problem coz aftermarket alarms use the same sensors that the nissan factory installed alarm would use, thus the problem would still exist (i think when she said sensors she may have been referring to actuators).

Are you able to shed some light on this? I wouldnt want to invest in an aftermarket alarm only to have the same problem reoccur.

Please help!

-----Question-----
My 2001 altima factory installed car alarm started acting up a month ago while i was driving it at nite, i was temporarily able to stop it for a minute then it continued blaring and lights flashing intermittently. After several attempts, it finally stopped. I thought all was ok only to be woken up at 5 am by the superintendent , same thing was happening and it was disturbing the building and its environs.

It was quite embarassing and the only way to shut it off was to disconnect the battery.

When i reconnected the battery later on that afternoon the car was fine, as a precautionary measure i removed the fuse for the horn whenever i left the car (less strenous than repeatedly disconnecting battery). This way at least i could still use the power functions and didn't have to worry about the noise should the alarm go off.

All was well for a few weeks and i eventually stopped removing the fuse but lo and behold, she started acting up again in the middle of the nite and luckily i was able to disconnect the battery before i woke up half the buidling!

I reset both remotes but the problem didn't stop, ended up taking it to a nissan dealership and they didn't find anything wrong ($100 down the drain!) but a very nice lady i spoke to suggested it may be the drivers side actuator but she can't be sure..(not much help eh?)

Some folks have suggested i may need to replace my car battery (it is kinda low) could this be an issue? I also may need to mention that i replaced the light bulbs on the car with brighter ones before this problem started(didn't interfere with wiring at all, just replaced the bulbs) could this have anything to do with it?

Please help, coz its stressing me out and i am now driving around fearing to leave my car anywhere lest it starts making noise. It just happened again this week at night in the basement parking as usual.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lrt me try to identify the alarm and it's features.
When it goes "off" is it the head lights and car horn
honking, or is it a siren and the parking lights?

This will help me help you.

Hello A.

When the alarm goes off, its the headlights (full beam) flashing and the car horn honking intermittently.

They you have an OEM alarm issue, I can give you this fix:
FACTORY ALARM DISARM wire is white/blue |- |at the driver switch in door.
You need to splice into it, and ground it.

However, this is a Nissan malfunction.
Nissan should rightly
be the ones to remove the old alarm module
and replace it since this is the trouble.

I hope having both options will be helpfull.

Good luck on this one.

Thank you Alarmtek

I do have a couple of follow up questions though:

What will splicing and grounding the wire do? (and on which door) If i understand you correctly, this will disarm the alarm thus leaving the car vulnerable to break ins without the alarm sounding.

If indeed that is the case, do you have any fix that can just fix the issue and retain the alarm system as fully functional?

Nissan don't want to take any responsibility with this issue, as the car is not under warranty anymore!

Yes, splicing into the wire, and grounding
it in the way described will leave the car defenseless.
The only fix at that point is adding an aftermarket system to do this function & more.

If this is what you want, I have several alarms
that will do the job well.

I hope this welps.

Answer
No she is mistaken.
The next aftermarket alarm works independently
from the Nissan OEM system, and would take over the control
functions. If installed correctly, this would solve the
issue. What would happen then is the new alarm will
lock and unlock the doors remotely, allowing for
the arming and disarming of the factory
system automatically since that is how the Nissan
system operates.

Let me know if I can get you squared away with
a decent system.
