Car Alarms: Subaru Forester Alarm Modes, subaru forester, legacy outback

Question
Bought a used 2001 Subaru Forester. I have the remote key fob and everything is fine if I use the remote to unlock the doors. However, if I use the key to unlock the door the alarm goes off when the door (driver's door) is opened. I can clear the alarm by turning the ignition on and off three time quickly.

I don't have the owner's manual but did read a section of it online regarding the alarm. It doesn't explain this use of the key causes alarm 'feature'. I can't see any benefit to having such a mode that alarms on use of the key.

Other online resources seem to indicate that this car has a factory Alpine security system used on : Legacy, Outback 1999-2004 ; Impreza 2000-2004 ; Forester 2000-2004.

How do I disable the "alarm on use of the key" mode ?

Answer
You really can not delete that function here.
The key has no communicative properties, so
the alarm is only seeing a breach. It can not
distinguish from the key, or a break in,
so it will set off as soon as the key opens the door.

I would however remove it and put in one you cannot
bypass simply by turning the key on and off like that.
To simple to steal. Not really achieving the
goal of the security device in my mind.

To my knowledge, there is not a system that you
can circumvent by simply opening the door with
the key other then proximity types, and they
are not perfected yet to the level you would
require.

You know, the type that recognizes the owner
while within 2 feet of it, and unlocks/disarms
itself? These tend to have a mind of they're own
and can be problematic if any interference is
detected. It simply will not communicate with
the car, and your stuck.

No, unfortunately, either make do, or change
it out for something you can deal with better.

Sorry, wish I could provide better news on
this one.

Be well.
