Car Alarms: Alarm That Wont Turn Off, theft deterrent system, toyota 4runner

Question
Great, but is there any way to disengage the alarm so I can take it to the dealership without the lights and horns announcing my arrival?

Like I said, somehow yesterday I was able to get it to turn off, but I think perhaps it was a lucky break.

Question -
I have a 2001 Toyota 4runner.  My key fob has not been working, so I've been using the key in the door to manually lock and unlock my car.  I bought the car used, and assume the alarm is factory installed since the key fob has Toyota on it and the theft deterrent system is mentioned in the manual.

Yesterday morning, when I tried to start the car, the horn started going and all the lights began flashing.  I exited the car and locked and unlocked the door, silencing the alarm.  I tried again, same thing.  I sat for a while and it turned off, but then it started again when I put it in drive.

I replaced the battery in the fob and tried again in the evening.  I pushed the red button to 'reset' the alarm, I don't really know.

Eventually, I got it to work and was satisfied.

This morning, same things - lights, horns, etc.  It is taking longer to start, and so I'm thinking maybe I should just replace the battery in the car, that's make next course of action.  I do wonder if doing that will further disrupt anything with the alarm, hopefully not.

Also, the key fob works to lock the doors, the alarm beeps and the lights flash.  It doesn't work to unlock the doors though, I have to use the key in the door to do that.  This is even with the new key fob battery I bought yesterday.  Might there be something wrong besides just a new car battery and possibly a new key fob?

The problem is in the keyless operation Janet.
When this model year 4 Runner has a security system
factory installed, it is armed and disarmed by remote.
That means that the factory system NEEDS a signal from the fob to unlock and disarm, and is not getting that from yours. It may be the wrong fob series and partially
works. Or it may be a malfunctioning
factory alarm module that needs to be inspected
and repaired, or replaced.

I would take it to Toyota for an ispection of the
system, and to check your replacement fob. Since
this is they're alarm, it is on them to troubleshoot
it for you. The malfunction will persist if not.

I hope this helps you.

Answer
No, sorry, hense the "malfunction".
If this were an aftermarket system,
there is a valet/overide which would
reset it, but if the reset process
did not work, I'd have to say, no.
Bells whistles and all, they will need to tow
it there, or you need to drive it in.

AAA. if you have it, is free right?
