Car Alarms: Intrepid alarm malfunction, rear hatch, open circuits

Question
The alarm system on my 99 Dodge Intrepid has been going off for no reason every now and then for the past week.  I can "unarm" it by manually locking the door, but the door ajar light has started to flicker on and off every now and then while driving also (also for no reason.)  Could this be a fuse going or something more insidious?  Nothing else seems to be wrong and it drives fine.  If it needs to go to the garage can it wait for a month (til my husband's back from New Orleans) or will things get worse?  Thank you!

Answer
No Kristen, I do not think it's going to be the
fuse that is giving you probs here, it's more likely
that the door ajar, door pin switch is either going bad from use,
or related to it some how. The alarm looks
for open circuits, the doors being the primary
one, and if it's intermittent, it could simply need
replacing. It is also the least expensive thing you can
do to fix the trouble. Either get the part, and a phillips
tipped drill and replace the door pin switch yourself,
or, take it to the dealer near you. Obviously, one will
cost you 20.00 or less, the other could be dealer service cost.

That's how I see it. Let me know what you end up doing
to repair it. Also, check the rear hatch to make certain
it's closed tightly as well.

Have a ggod day.
