Car Alarms: viper car alarm troubles, viper 550 esp, guaranties

Question
I have a problem with a viper (550 ESP) car alarm that is in an F250 pick-up. Recently the alarm stopped beeping. The lights will flash, but the alarm does not arm or beep anymore. If you press the panic button, the alarm will still go off, however it will no longer arm. The alarm also has remote control start, which still works. When the truck was bought, the unlock button on the remote rarely would unlock or lock the the doors. You could hear them trying to go up or down, but it was like there was no juice. I replaced the battery in the remote, but that did not fix the problem. Could this have been a precursor to the alarm failure? We have also looked for a restart or toggle switch to attempt to restart the alarm, but there does not seem to be such a thing. This truck can not be driven without an alarm so I'm just hoping that this isn't a hopeless problem.

Answer
Well unfortunately the lack of a valet/overide
switch will keep you from resetting the system.
It can also mean that the system is ready to be replaced.
Either way, it's malfunctioning and needs some
sort of action.

Mine would be to remove it now before winter, get a
brand new system with all warranties and guaranties,
and be trouble/hassle free when it becomes important.

But that's just my take. You may have another idea.
Perhaps trying to salvage it. That usually will take
a DEI dealer, and some $$$ to get that done. It
will probably be around the same to get it repaired,
as to replace it.

May as well just start fresh and save the headaches.
Let me know if I can outfit you with a more reliable,
better system then you are dealing with currently.

Be well.
