Car Alarms: Programing chevy alarms, dip switch settings, fcc id

Question
Yes, the standard GM FOB, but each time I leave the car it arms itself, I believe this is "passive" mode. I do not want this, I want to arm it myself. example: if i park in my garage, go in the house, then go back to get my PDA from the car, the alarm starts screaming at me, I then need tio rush and find the key, and disarm the stupid alarm again. does this help?  ..pete

Can you help me program my 2001 Monte Carlo (Chevy stock) alarm? Also, is there a "remote start module" for it? I don't want it to automatically arm everytime I close the door & walk away.  Thanks  ..pete
Answer -
I am a bit confused. Please tell me what you are experiencing. The "factory" alarm is programed to
the GM keyfob. If you have anything else it's an
aftermarket, put on at the dealership by contractor,
keyless car alarm. If trying to add remote start, I STRONGLY suggest you simply get what would work
best for your needs. I can put togehter a system to do the job, but the problem is finding out what your situation is now, and what you want to accomplish.

Let me know so I can better advise.

Answer
The car alarm you have is an aftermarket system and
is in passive mode. Usually you would need to make the changes using the valet overide, or by unplugging
the alarm brain, and change dip switch settings.
All are different, so you still need to research it.

I suggest you go to www.remotesunlimited.com and see if
you can identify the alarm you have using the FCC ID #
on the back of the fob.  Then contact the manufacturer
to get the procedure to put it into active only mode.

Good luck with it.
