I recently had a Viper Alarm installed in my car, a 2004 Honda Civic Automatic EX.(Sorry not exact of the model number, as I don't have it with me right now)  When I picked it up, and drove away, I realized my check engine light was on, and on the P,N,R,D,D2 lights on the dashboard, my D light was blinking the green circle light that it is.  Then when trying to speed up, my car wouldn't accelerate, and my RPMs were flying, but my car was going nowhere.  Living close to the place, I drove home and called Honda and then the alarm place.  I brought it up to Honda the next day, and they couldn't find out what was wrong.  They ordered a new main computer for the car, installed it, but that didn;t fix the problem.  Today, 5 days later, they decided to unhook the alarm and see if that would fix it.  The car ran smooth with the alarm disconnected.  They said it wasn't compatable with my car, and that I would need a Honda alarm.  Is this true?  Is a Viper alarm really not compatible with a 2004 Civic? I really want this alarm in my car.  I heard from another alarm place, that sometimes if the car key or something has a chip in it, they need to do something to put that into the dashboard to override the honda system or something?  I don't know much, so if you could help me out, it would be much appreciated.

Ok, if the system also is a car starter then the answer
is yes, you need to add a bypass module, either
using the second ignition key, or a keyless,
self learning module so you can remote start it.

If it's not a <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=remote%20starter" onmouseover="window.status='remote starter'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">remote starter</a>, it was install incorrectly.
Either way, not being a fan of the DEI line of
products, (see www.alarmdomain.com)
I would say that your installer should
find another profession. This car is exceedingly
easy for a professional installer to do and pretty
easy for a do it do it yourselfer as well,
with or without remote start.

Let me know what it is we have here, and if
you want a suggestion to replace it, so that you
have great security, <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=keyless%20entry" onmouseover="window.status='keyless entry'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">keyless entry</a> and remote start,
with no troubles and at a price that will
surprise you!

It did not have a remote starter with it, just a Viper alarm.  Is Honda just saying this to get me to buy their product?  And yes a couple of suggestions for other alarms around the 300 dollar range would be appreciated.

Answer
Yes Honda would love you to buy they're system.
That's obvious. But very limited in range, and
protection features. And YOU DO NOT have to spend
that much to get a high quality system.

Have a look at both www.pagingalarms.com (with an s)
and www.pagingalarm.com (without the s)
Either of these systems would run huge rings
around what you've been offered. I would help
you do the install online, or phone, wire by wire
if need be to make my point.
Cause so far, you've been getting hosed.

Also look at www.caralarmz.com and if in the Tampa
Fla. area, www.tampaco.com for what's possible.

Let me know if something peaks your
interest. The ASTRA 7E7 @
www.pagingalarm.com would
be my first choice if remote start is not desired.
