Car Alarms: Disconnected Alarm, valet mode, survalience

Question
I Recently bought a car, on seeing that it had an alarm i tried see how it worked etc... Only to find it had been disconnected. When i connect the screamer wire and the other alarm wire together it sets the alarm off, none of the buttons on the control work to turn it off so i am left with a useless alarm. Also does the valet mode do anything to solve my problem?

Answer
Well if you put the wires back together, and
then locate the valet button to reset the
system, you would then have a system that
still did not work correctly, accept that it
won't arm now. Best suggestion at this
point is to remove the old one, that
does not operate, and replace with one that
you know what it does, how it does it, and
with 2 new remotes and full warranties.

Even if you do get the old system working, you
would have warranty, replacement and
security application issues you are not ready for.
Like starter kill, domelight survalience and
monitoring, plus anti hijack and shock sensing
may also be factors here. If unaware
of it's abilities, you could just be "buying trouble"
with the old system. Hate to see you on the side
of the road, or worse yet, in a bad area,
and the car won't start!

No it makes no sense to salvage a system
that was obviously disconnected prior to
the sale of the car. There was probably
a good reason for that!

Go get a new system and be safe.
Have a good day.
