I have a 1997 Ford Thunderbird with the factory alarm and keyless entry.  A few weeks ago the alarm started sounding approx. 30-60 seconds after locking the door either with the remote or by using the door lock switch.  It silences when the open door remote button is used.  When the lock is manually pushed down on the door there is no problem.  What is the most likely cause of this problem, and can it be fixed by an independent car alarm company or should I use the dealership?  Thanks so much for your help.
Answer -
Tom,
  Tell me what is "sounding".
The horn, or a siren? Head lights or
parking lights flashing? LED in the dash,
or no?

I need to identify
what alarm we are dealing with here.

The horn sounds and the headlights and parking lights sound.  The "theft" light is on.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
I appears from the description that it is the factory alarm
malfunctioning. The only way to fix this yourself
is to eliminate this system completely by locating
the OEM FACTORY DISARM WIRE located in the drivers
side kick panel, spicing into it, then grounding
it to the body of the car. This permanantly
disables the factory alarm. The wire color
is dark green/purple.

Short of that, Ford would have to have you bring
it in to reset it through the diagnostic center
under the dash.

If it's an aftermarket alarm, the procedure would
be different.

Those are your ptions I am afraid. If
using the fisrt, and disarming it for good,
I do suggest a solid aftermarket system to
pick up the duty of protecting this car.

Good luck with it.
