Car Alarms: viper alarm on a 1997 ford explorer, viper dealer, 1997 ford explorer

Question
When I got my 1997 Ford Explorer this year it had a viper alarm with remote start.  Sometimes the manufactor alarm still goes off on the vehicle when you open the doors after unlocking with the remote.  Is it still suposed to do that?  Also, if the viper alarm is set off and you are unaware of it until hours later will it cause you vihicle not to start until you lock and unlock the vihicle again?  Thanks.

Answer
No, the factory alarm was not bypassed correctly
when they installed the Viper.

You would need to send a momentary ground
pulse to the disarm wire in the truck, at the same
time the Viper unlocks the door to disable the
factory system at that point.

To know what the alarm is doing, I suggest pulling the
Viper out, and replace it with a system that
has 2 way paging instead. This way you would know
immediately, and exactly when the truck is
tampered with, and what area as well.

Have a look at www.PAGINGALARMS.com
for a fore instance.

If you simply want to correct the system you have,
I suggest taking it to the local Viper dealer
for the extra work that needs to be done.

Good luck with it.
