Car Alarms: 1991 RX-7 Convertible, brain boxes, inexpensive substitutes

Question
When I purchased my car I installed an Alpine alarm with a separate internal motion sensor and door lock activator.  Now, my remote is cracked, but still works.  Alpine no longer makes alarms, and I don't know whether it's best to spend the $68 to have a new remote made, or is my alarm so outdated that it needs to be replaced, and if so... by what?  Clifford, Viper?  Back in the day those were the "inexpensive" substitutes.  I just want an alarm that unlocks my doors, and makes noise if someone reaches into the car with the top down and makes it moderately difficult to drvie my car off without me in it.  I've had no problems with the alarm until recently when the horn cut out. I had it replaced but it's still not working.    I appreciate your time and attention.

Best regards,

Answer
Hi,
Yes back in the day the brain boxes were the size of
a brick too!

It's time to bring up the security to modern
levels I think.

There are alot of fine choices here,
but I think the best one is the Precision 200
for the budget decribed, and the features needed.

I have this system on sale right now,
and you can definatey use it here
as a decent replacement.

Have a look at the Precision
system on my page at www.caralarmz.com

Has built in starter kill and door lock relays,
and I think we can use the old motion sensor
on this particular unit too. The system is
only 59.95 this week, and I'll help you online
with the vehicle's installation
notes and my instant messenger capabilites,
to get it done in no time.

Go look at the Precision on my car alarms page
and we'll get er done!
