Chrysler Repair: Engine starts/shuts off after 2 seconds, push button locks, abs light

Question
QUESTION: hi roland , my voyager 99 ,when turn key on the engine turns on for 2 seconds the it turns it self off , after trying few times to start it the dash doest led on and doesnt start at all . leave it for half an hour it starts and drives good maybe for 2 -3 days and then it happen again it wont start for 2 hours more or less thenagain try it works , i couldnt get any reading through turnning the switch on few time s.  any idea thnx

ANSWER: Hi Musa,
It appears to me that the vehicle theft security system is not disarming when you enter the van after having set that alarm. It could be that the wire in the driver door lock that connects to the body computer is flaky. Watch the LED on the dash to make sure that it goes off before trying to start. If not, then try unlocking the passenger door. Or if you have a remote entry device try using that to unlock the doors. That shut down after 2 seconds is exactly the behavior that occurs when this is the case, and then refusing to even crank the starter. If you can't reliable avoid this, then you can avoid setting the security system by opting to secure the van ONLY by using the mechanical push button locks on the interior doors as you leave. Don't use the power door locks, the key lock, or the remote lock as any of those will arm the system.

QUESTION: hi roland , ti ve tried aall these optains nothing worked .i dnt mind cutting wires or dismantel any item in the car to solve this prblem if theres a way, today tried all day it wont start at all . by the way i ve done some work on the swtich barriel earlier b4 this problm happend about 1 week and  i had the air bag light on since also the abs light was on for the last year , the car was driving no prblm at all with abs light and driven on air bag light on for i week almost . sry for the long email and thnx again

ANSWER: Hi Musa,
Do you hear the fuel pump run coming from inside the fuel tank for about 1 second when you turn the ignition to the 'run' position?
Are you getting spark when you crank it over?
Other than those, which would prevent sparking if not "yes", then I would suggest that you check fuses #2 and #6 in the fuse box under the dash. When the key is in the 'run' as well as the 'start' position verify that you have 12V on both end clips of those fuse sockets. These power the abs, airbag, and the body computer so I would want to be sure that those are 'on' if you want the lights to go off, and you want the body computer to be powered for the aspect of the theft security system which is located there.
There is no way to disconnect the security system because it is a function programmed into the body computer and that has to be working or the pcm will cut off the spark and fuel. I suppose you could try and find a pcm from a '99 vehicle that isn't equipped with a anti-theft system, but that might be difficult to find and is not a guarantee that it would solve the problem. You have to deal with  why it won't satisfy the anti-theft system, rather than try to remove the system.
Please let me know what you learn.

QUESTION: hi again  i still couldnt solve the problem , if i get some one scan the computer and read the codes will it tell me exactly whats wrong , by the way after i fixed the lock barriel at that time i lost the horn in addition to the air bag light which came  on at that time , would it b the clock spring under the steering wheel becouse the steering twisted few itmes while it was out of the car in time of fixing the switch . thnx again

Answer
Hi Musa,
On the clockspring, if the steering wheel was disconnected from the steering column in that repair process, and then it turned further than the usual stop in either direction, then yes that could have broken the clockspring. If the wheel were still connected to the steering wheel so they prevented the rotation being abnormally far, then no the clockspring shouldn't break. But it is definitely suspicious because the air bag and the horn both rely on the clockspring.
A code would be helpful but may not tell you exactly what is wrong but it is a starting point for the repair.  What about the other items that I listed in my last response. Did you check out all those?
