Car Alarms: Chevy Trailblazer alarm, chevy trailblazer, key fobs

Followup To Question -
OK, Thanks so much for the info and prompt response. One follow -up: Can I simply wire in an LED to the factory sytem that will flash when its alarmed?

I recently bought a used 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. It has a factory security/keyless entry feature. However, there is no flashing LED or other alarm indicator, which I have found to be a real deterrent. JC Whitney sells an add-on remote alarm, with an LED,which requires a factory installed remote keyless entry and transmitters, which I have. Can I install that on the vehicle without messing up the factory security system?
Answer -
No you can't. The Trailblazer uses a databus
system for door locks and door triggers, the Rebel
from JCWHITNEY you are looking at is a simple,
basic system used to interface in less expensive, l
ess complex vehicles like Honda, Toyota etc...

The other trouble is that
this system you are talking about is limited in
performance & range, and GM would need to
help you install it into this particular vehicle
since you are trying to use they're key fobs.
Not an easy task by any means.

Bottom line, no don't try it. Get a system to
replace the one you have now, and a couple
of modules to do the locks/door triggers,
and if you want, remote start.

I hope this helped a bit.

Answer
hmmm, yes that can be done without having an alarm actually.
Have a look at the Hyper LED display on my accessories
website www.12VOLTPLANET.com

They are only 12.95 but can be put onto the trailblazer
with a bit of install know how.

You would use power, and ground, and an igintion wire
in this case. If using an aftermaket alarm, it
would be power and a floating ground when armed wire
(like the (-) start kill output on all alarms) to make
it flash in unison with an aftermarket alarm.

If you simply want to add a decent alarm system
to this truck without interfering with the GM side of things, a basic alarm, no keyless, and a motion sensor can do this in a snap. Then it will give you flashing
lights, LED, siren, and interior movemnent sensing.

Best way to add protection short of a complete interface.

The Precison 200 for 69.00 and a plug in motion sensor 36.00
is perfect for this one. The only change here in my mind
would be to step up to the astra 777
(89.95 see at www.pagingalarm.com )
with 2 way paging. This would be ideal for
keeping track and knowing the status of the truck
when out of it. Not too hard to install either.

That would complete an easy install
on the Traiblazer.

When you get into remote starting
and keyless entry, there would be 2 modules required
to interface any aftermarket system and they would be approx.
100.00 added to whatever you bought.

Let me know by sending
me an email to INSTALLSUPPORT@AOL.COM  and
I will email you a paylink for all
that's needed to do this yourself.

Once done, I will send the notes for the truck,
and will be here to assist on the installation.
