Car Alarms: disconnecting a viper alarm but retaining the remote starter, toyota rav 4, viper alarm system

Question
I recently bought a 97 Toyota Rav 4 that has a Viper alarm system.  The alarm is irritating because it self-sets 20 seconds after you shut a door.  We flipped the toggle switch to shut off the alarm, but now the remote starter will not work.  Is there a way to keep the remote starter but disconnect the alarm?

Thank you,

Cheryl

Answer
Car alarms have what's refered to
as passive and active armimg.
Your's is currently in Passive mode.
You need to actively arm and disarm your
alarm yourself, and this is a feature setting
in the brain, This can usually be changed,
but that procedure is available through a
DEI dealer or, viper installer.

Try writing to a friend of mine who may have
that info/procedure available for you.

You can also remove the alarm alltogether and
replace it with one you know more about, but
I think you can really salvage this one with
the right information. If not, let me
know and we'll get you into a new 2 way system
that will blow the doors off the one you have
with much more range!

Good luck with it.
