Car Alarms: car alarms, valet mode, potiac

Question
I recently purchased a car with an aftermarket alarm/keyless remote. The remote has sidewinder on it. One button sets alarm the other opens the trunk, by pressing both at the same time it would start. It recently stopped working and different people have told me different things to fix it. do you have any idea what's wrong it will not do any thing at all. ihave already put a new battery in the remote. The car alam is on a 1996 potiac bonneville.

Answer
Evening Mary,
Sidewinder is a DEI product, the maker of
Viper (www.directed.com) and sounds like it is in
valet mode. If so, the LED in the dash is on solid,
and the only thing that does work,
is the lock/unlock.

It's possible you put it into overide/valet
by experimenting with the remote buttons.

Try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes off, and the siren chirps twice.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to valet mode.

That should do it.

If not, try locating a Sidewinder/Viper dealer on
my site at www.installsupport.com. Lot's of techs use
this resource to communicate ideas and tips.
It is possible you might have lost programming
of the remotes, so try the first solution (hopefully)
to reset the system.

Good luck with it,
and let me know if it helped.

Regards.
